WEMO Resources

WEMO FORMS POSTED!

The information forms for you to document ORV routes of concern have now been posted to the website (see the side column), and for your convenience are shared again here:

  1. WEMO Route Form Orientation – To get you started
  2. WEMO Route Form – Use to actually document routes of concern
  3. BLM Tips and Tricks Document – Helpful in using the route designation maps

The January 25 deadline for comments will be here before we know it – especially with the busy-ness of the holiday season already upon us!

Please let us know if you have any questions about the forms or the comment process. We are available to support you.

Also, if you would like to organize a small gathering with your neighbors or others in your community to help identify and document ORV routes near your home, we’re happy to help. Please contact Beth Sheffield (beth@orvwatch.com) to inquire.

Thank you for participating in this comment process.

Contact your local representatives from the county to the federal level about your concerns about the WEMO plan: Supervisor Ramos, Senators Feinstein and Boxer, Interior Secretary Jewell.

Write letters to the editor about you concerns.

From 2006-2011, after COW, Alliance for Responsible Recreation and other concerned organizations fought a successful battle in the courts to force the BLM to create a reasonable and legal plan for West Mojave (WEMO) motorized routes that conformed to the law, the BLM is back with a long awaited new plan. Unfortunately, but unsurprisingly the new WEMO plan is even worse than the BLM’s original plan. The 2015 WEMO Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) with the BLM’s “recommended alternative” routes, instead of following the court’s order for “minimization”, DOUBLES the number of motorized route miles that would be accessible to OHVs.

Please use COW’s WEMO 2015 Resource Center on the right side of this page to view WEMO DEIS maps and get information on what to include in your comments to the BLM.

To increase the effectiveness of the comments we are making re the WEMO DEIS we urge you to also send a copy to Supervisor James Ramos.
