Area Residents Prepare for President's Day Onslaught of ORVs
Every Presidents Day Weekend literally hundreds of ORVs invaded our communities and trespassed on both private and public lands. The invasion on Bureau of Land Management lands off-limits to ORVs was widespread and trespass on private lands and CSA roads was accompanied by intimidation and harassment is a huge problem for residents, property owners and businesses.
Residents are calling on local law enforcement to protect our rights and enforce the law. The new county ordinance prohibits illegal stagings of 10 or more vehicles, requires riders to carry written permission to ride on private property, outlaws riding on CSA roads and carries penalties for nuisance in the form of excessive dust and noise.
We have invited a representatives from the Bureau of Land Management, Sheriffs department and code enforcement to describe how they plant to stop illegal ORV abuse. We will also be collecting testimony from residents who have suffered from harassment and intimidation from ORV outlaws.
RESIDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BRING LETTERS AND DOCUMENTATION ABOUT INCIDENTS OF HARASSMENT AND INTIMIDATION THAT WE WILL COPY FOR THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT.
COW has new surveillance equipment including digital cameras, a ground telescope with digital camera and a decibel meter for use by our members to document problem ORVs. We will also discuss the aftermath of the Christmas and New Years holidays and how the new ORV ordinance worked.
